Community Initiatives
At Fostering Together, our support for foster families goes beyond training, supervision, and professional guidance.
We are committed to continually reinvesting in our fostering community, creating meaningful opportunities, practical resources, and positive experiences for the children, young people, and carers we support. From helping families enjoy a well-earned break to making community events more accessible for children with complex disabilities, everything we do is designed to remove barriers, build confidence, and help families thrive.
Bringing Our Community Together
Supporting foster families is about more than providing practical resources. It is also about creating opportunities to connect, share experiences, and make meaningful memories together.
Throughout the year, we organise a varied programme of seasonal events and family activities exclusively for our fostering community. From accessible days out and festive celebrations to family picnics, wildlife parks, inclusive experiences, and community gatherings, each event is designed to bring carers, children, and young people together in welcoming and supportive environments.
What makes these activities especially meaningful is that they are shaped by the families who take part. We regularly listen to our foster carers, asking what they would like to see, where they would like to go, and what would make the greatest difference to their families. Their ideas help shape our annual programme of events.
Our Community Engagement Officer, Maddie, works closely with foster families and local partners to turn those ideas into reality, carefully planning experiences that are enjoyable, inclusive, and accessible for children and young people of all abilities.
These events help families build friendships, reduce isolation, celebrate achievements, and feel part of the strong, connected community at the heart of Fostering Together.

Designed with accessibility and comfort at its heart, the lodge offers a welcoming coastal retreat where foster families can enjoy quality time in a setting that understands and supports their needs. With features including ceiling track hoisting, accessible bathing facilities, and adapted bedrooms, families can enjoy a break with fewer barriers and greater peace of mind.
Whether families are celebrating a special occasion, spending precious time together, or simply stepping away from everyday routines, the lodge reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the wellbeing of our fostering community.

Our purpose-built accessible community support trailer provides essential facilities, including a fully accessible changing space, so children and young people with complex needs can take part more comfortably, confidently, and with dignity.
From family fun days and community festivals to disability events and local partnerships, Lulu helps make shared experiences more accessible for families who might otherwise be unable to attend.
It is another way we are working to create inclusive opportunities, remove barriers, and ensure every child has the chance to feel involved.
These are more than facilities & resources...
We see them as real expressions of our commitment to the families, children, and young people we support and ethos of following the direction our community points us in.
Our belief is that meaningful support goes beyond advice and guidance. It means investing in solutions that make everyday life easier, strengthen family wellbeing, and open up opportunities for the children and young people we are responsible for to enjoy the experiences every family deserves.
This is all part of our wider commitment to building a fostering community where families feel valued, supported, and connected in the care of young people with complex needs and disabilities.
Because when foster families thrive, the children in their care are given the best chance to thrive too.
