Learning from the experience for fostering families

Working Together with families

Submitted by fosteringtogether on 14 January 2021

Our close followers will already know of  our core value of working together - we even put it in our name!

As our first few families have now been to panel or are booked in to attend in the next few weeks, we have already kickstarted discussions on what these families want to see from the Fostering Together service, including day-to-day & practical support, learning & development and other ways to get involved. We've also held discussions about our online fostering management platform, FosterKit, and features that families would find useful and to interact with others in their community.

We'd particularly like to extend our thanks to Laura & Alex, who are transferring to our service since their first approval as foster carers in 2017. Laura and Alex have been involved in evaluating 'Skills to Foster' and preparation content for assessments for new families. Their input is invaluable to us as we drive our efforts to recruit new families and ensures we can better prepare them fully for this fantastically rewarding and transformative role.

Thanks Laura and Alex!

Alongside this, we have also developed preparation materials to prompt reflective discussion for experienced families joining the service. Our first session went really well, with our attendees applying the Secure Base Model to their past experiences of parenting and fostering.
