Preparing new foster carers in 2026 🎓

Submitted by fosteringtogether on 22 September 2026

We spent the day in Coleshill with families who are currently going through their fostering assessments, delivering preparation training and giving them a glimpse of what the next steps of their fostering journey will look like. 👣

These days are a valuable opportunity to bring everyone together, introduce families to the Fostering Together team and explore what fostering children with disabilities can involve. They also give us the chance to explain the support families can expect from us once they are approved as foster carers. 💛

🤝 Learning from experience

A particularly important part of the day was hearing from experienced foster carers who could share their own perspectives and experiences with the group.

A big thank you to Terry, Sam and Adrian for taking the time to speak with the families and offer an insight into life as a foster carer. Hearing directly from people who have been on the journey themselves can help those preparing to foster understand what to expect and feel more confident about the road ahead. 🌟

Sarah, Vicky, Matt, Greg and Jack were all there to support the day, answer questions and help families understand more about fostering with Fostering Together.

💛 Building confidence for the journey ahead

Becoming a foster carer is a big decision, and preparation is an important part of making sure families feel ready for the role. For those considering fostering children with disabilities, it is also an opportunity to learn about the individual needs children may have and the practical, emotional and professional support available to help them thrive.

At Fostering Together, we want our foster carers to feel part of a supportive team, with people around them who understand their experiences and are there to work alongside them.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the day and helped make it such a positive opportunity to learn, ask questions and look ahead to the next stage of their fostering journey. 👋💛
